The Green Lantern

GREEN LANTERN
Several months ago, I was asked to do a Green Lantern piece for DC Comics.

I'll let the images speak for themselves, but essentially I was trying to create an "epic" sort of poster of Hal Jordan and his story. The biggest challenge was making the entire scene "read" properly with all the different elements going on. The Star Wars look of this piece is not unintentional.

One difference with this illustration from most others is that the initial drawing was done on several pieces of tracing paper that I cut up and pieced together, mostly just to make subtle changes to the composition before inking it. Over all, it was a ton of fun to draw.

COMMUNICATION ARTS
In other news, I'm currently featured in the FRESH section of the November/December issue of Communication Arts. Check it out!

What a cool assignment and image! I really dig how there's so much to look at that I don't want to look away.

Hey Frank, that looks amazing! I love it:)And it really has a strong Star Wars look, which is great. This old guy reminded me of Yoda:P...
I'd like to know how you ink your stuff and how you scan and prepare your linework it looks that clean. Would be great if you could tell me!
Can't wait for more, I'm a big fan!

This is definitely one of the best images you've made--in my opinion.

Thanks everyone. I really enjoyed the challenge of doing this piece, though I'll admit that all I see are things I'd like to change about it. I promise more of this sort of nonsense in the future!
